95 GT backfiring and dies

95 GT backfiring and dies
I just got a call from a ladyfriend, her 95 GT(pretty much stock) started up fine, sounded good while she was warming it up, but as soon as she put a load on it and started to drive off, it started backfiring and popping, and stalled out. It fired back up in neutral, but once again when in gear, it pops and dies.
I dont have time to go check it out til after class, but what do you guys suggest I start with?
