Smile gt-40 head question

Before i start, I want to let you know that I don't really have high expectations for an answer.

A buddy's car that I have been helping put together has a motor that I would like to purchase if it is good. It has flat top BRC pistons and is a 306 displacement. They have reliefs for the 2.02 valves.

I saw the 3 bar gt-40 heads after he got them back from the machine shop. They were milled so much that the heads would not lay flat on table because the valves stuck out so far. We never did cc them but, know they have been milled a good bit. The motor ran fine before sufacing and still does we think. We will start it this week after we get the oil gauge line hooked up. He is running a cam around a 550 lift. I would swap the cam to roller and run around 5.12 myself with 6lbs. of boost from my kb. Thing is, I don't know how much compression the motor has. I have never seen heads milled that much. Do you think it would be possible to get an idea if I could run the 6lbs from a compression test? Or has anyone have an idea if I could?

any ideas would be great. I am going to pass if I can't get an idea.

thanks

he just happened to call after I wrote this. He said the motor would run on 87 octane so, i think it would be fine.

thanks anyways

the compression is likely too high for boost... i'd skip on them if I were you

that was my first impression too. I actually passed on it one time for a grand. This was after 400 bucks form the machine shop in the heads. I just wanted to get the whole motor to save on buying heads, rockers and gaskets. Supposedly they started out at 64cc's and i thought they may be okay.

Watch us get it running and him have piston to valve clearance problems. lol

If they were milled a crapload there's also likely to be intake port alignment issues, as well as sealing issues at the front and rear of the intake.

Didn't he tell them what he wanted? Me and my machine shop communicated every little thing before anything was touched. He should have some info on them about what was done.

he just had them surfaced. They were milled down when he bought the car the motor came in. It was a good running motor. I could have explained that a bit better. After all the work was done was the first time I had seen them not on the motor.

Although, he is running an eddy rpm carb intake and I have the un-ported gt-40 intake so, I may have those issues.

**** it, I am taking the money I got off the tremec and going to the WSOP at Tunica today. Then I will just get me a real motor if it works out.
