The way the c-clip fits on the end of the axle i dont think you have to worry about it breaking its a free floating clip, and the axle rides the cross pin and carrier gear keeping the clip in place, most of the time the axles i have seen wrung off behind the wheel or at the splines i dont see your worry????

To the OP
A lot of breaking a axle is also hooking if it don't hook real good you will be OK for a while and it really don't take much HP to break a stock axle I have seen it done with a lot less then 500 hp. Hell I have seen it done with a stock car and a set of slicks dumping the clutch at 5000 RPM. With that being said, says you run a auto and I have seen cars run tens with stock axles and a auto. I am not talking of leaving off a trans. brake here. Take it to the track and see what it runs. the rules are there for a reason if it runs fast enough for good axles then you should be doing it. or if you run slicks and a stick you really should be thinking about it.
