you can hit really high hp amounts on a 302. it just depends on what your build is. i'm building a high revving ultra light weight rotating 306, 190 FAC heads, custom billet TLSR cam, super victor intake, pro systems carb. it has potential of 10.xx in the quarter. if you do the math on that it'd net ~4xx ish hp to hit times like that.

it can be done but its not your typical hydro roller build. high revs on a small bore = power.

**edit!

high revs on small ci motors = power

TQ x rpm / 5252 = HP

if you make 300 tq @ 3000rpm = 171.36

but if you make that same 300 tq @ 6000 rpm = 342hp

with a stock bottom end or mild 306 or you're NOT going to get 350rwhp from just an h/c/i. you need nitrous/fi. but the common setups I see are afr165 heads, gt40/systemax/rpm/tfs intake, and a custom cam. I've seen A LOT of custom setups get below 300rwhp tuned. not so many get over 300, and i've heard of zero making 350.

My 347 is the same bore size as your 306... I'm assuming you mean stroke?

i see no reason that if a TFS top end kit can make 290-300rwhp with a TINY cam (221/225* @ .050" is very small) on a good tune, a FAR better flowing set of heads and a much better cam cant make up that difference...

and yes, the fact that the FAC heads are like $50 more than the regular 170 TF heads and leave them in the dust in EVERY regard does IMO make them outdated.

ive spend $50 on far dumber things than the potential for 50+ extra HP...
