I have unequal BBK shorties, a 2-1/2" off road H pipe which I welded Magnaflow spun metallic cats to (no change in sound or performance), and a dynomax super turbo 2-1/2" cat back. Over 2 grand it doesn't sound much different than stock. Under 2 grand it drones so bad I wind up driving in 4th gear a lot. Last year I read through that whole post about the branch resonators and made some. I had the pipe, an afternoon, and a welder so why not give it a shot. I HATED the way it sounded. Yes with the resonators both about 30 inches long there was absolutely no drone but there was no sound either. I made some clamp-on caps and started shortening them 6 inches at a time to "tune" it. Well once it started to sound decent again the resonators were only about 6 inches long and the drone is back. So it's back to the drawing board. I'm thinking of running either Jones quite tone mufflers or some really long (like 18 inch case length) magnaflows. I actually really love the sound of Flowmaster 3 chambers but I have a feeling those would drone worse than what I have now.

before you get rid of your current system, i would try the dynomat. people i know say that it helps quiet down the interior of the car a lot. i would strip down the entire interior, dynomat the whole thing (floors, roof if yours isnt a convertible, inside of doors) and give that a try.

Dynamat does make a difference and can take the edge off, but it's not a cure for the drone. My trunk, spare tire well, insides of quarters, side panels, outer sheetmetal from rear quarters, doors rear wheel wells, under the back seat, and rear floors are all covered in fatmat rattle trap. It helps but the drone is still pretty bad even with super turbos. I think it may have more to do with the 2.5" pipe and lack of normal cats than anything. My brother in law has a 92 LX that's totally 100% stock (with under 50k no less) with flowmaster 40's welded into the stock exhaust and it's way, way quieter than my car. But stock exhaust won't work too well for the motor I have in mind, so I just need to find a different set of mufflers. My current setup would probably be too quiet for most people, but I drive this car 100 miles a day and most of it is at about 60 mph which with 3.55's is right where it drones.
