oil dipstick readin...

why does my oil dipstick read like 1.5 quarts over full? i know it takes 5 quarts and so does everyone else. i do drain both plugs. I have the stock oil pan, and the stock yellow tip dipstick. was the tub pushed in somehow before i owned it? whats going on?

Mine is the same way. What I did was fill the car with 5 qts, motorcraft fl-1a filter and started the car. Then pulled the stick and scribed a new line at the new fill level.

Back in 88 89 Ford had us remarking dipsticks on the 5.0 F150. I filled with oil after o&f change. Remark stick with engraving tool measure distance of quart low and scribe that. On my car I took a triangle file and made V for full and 1 quart marks.

My dipstick reads that im a 1/8 of a quart low after an oil change. I pulled the dipstick for header install awhile back and it still reads the same. Thats a good idea making a new mark for the full line.

did you remember to drain the front part of the oil pan? it holds about a quart up there

foxbod90 04-03-2010 11:23 AM

yes, both plugs

yeah mine i think reads over... i drain back plug, front plug, leave them open, pull the filter replace with new, let car sit for half an hour. then plug it all back together
