Default What to do with a spare 5.0

After buying a parts car for some doors, trunk and interior parts, I am left with one side affect, albeit an awesome one. I have a complete extra 5.0 out of my parts 1990 GT vert. The previous owner drove the car (bent up from a wreck) to his house where he removed the trans, radiator, alternator, belt entire exhause and some other body and suspension parts before I got the car. He claimed that it ran well when he parked it and started to strip it. The engine turns freely and is actually complete minus exhaust manifolds. Even the accessory bracket is still there. And this is my dilemma. What do I do with it?

First off I don't want to sell it or give it away, I bought the car for half of what the cheapest junkyard motor I could find on car-part.com costs. I love the idea of having a spare motor around but I am not impressed with the stock power of my car's 5.0. I would love to put the spare engine on a stand and rebuild it but do so with more power. I thought about a stroker but the car is not going to be for racing and it seems excessive and overly expensive. I just want something fun to play around with that my wife can drive sometimes too without killing herself. Needs to be streetable. Between 300-400 horsepower would probably my goal.

I have had 5.0's in two Cougars, an F-150, two Broncos and a Grand Marquis. Other then headers and duals on the trucks, I have never done any modifications to a 5.0. I have rebuilt engines before but never for high performance.

I already plan on putting BBK headers, off road x-pipe and flowmasters as well as 4.10's into the car as I got a deal on all of them. I also will do an MAF swap as I have the entire setup from my 90 boxed up and ready to go.

From the bottom up, retaining the EFI, what would be a good path to follow? I want to get an idea of my costs so I can figure out when I can start. I am in no rush. Car is bone stock as it sits right now.

well u get what u pay for with car parts. good heads will run you like 1500 bucks, a stroker kit/ machining the block will be about 2k... prolly a good 5 k total, then u need to make sure the trans, suspension etc can handle the increased tourqe
