Yea, as adder said axle seals are at the ends of the axle. So if they were leaking your brakes would most likely have gear lube on them if it was bad. If your tubes are leaking I would weld them rather than RTV. But I've worked at a Chrysler dealer and now at a Ford dealer and I've never seen either manufacturers axles ever have issues leaking out of tubes.

Side of pumpkin like out of the diff cover? Or where the axle tubes meet center section?

Kind of hard to tell...haven't jacked it up, just got down on the ground and noticed some on the fuel tank and on the right side of the pumpkin...

Ok well take a look and if its simply from the diff cover (which it likely is), just pop it off, clean out the inside, replace fluids and reseal with some RTV

You mention sealing with blue silicone. should this be wiped on around the outside edge or a thin continuous bead on the machined surfaces of the rear end housing that the gasket gets sandwiched between?

blue should not be used here. You need to use black, or Permatex Right Stuff
