Default oil pan pain

How do you get the oil pan out. 87 5.0. Could I drop the trans and that would give me the clearance?

Nope. The pan goes over the K-member.

Either loosen engine mounts and raise the engine up a bit to remove the pan... or drop the K-member.

My drain bolt is leaking because of a shatty oil pan that I used when rebuilding me engine. An oversized plug didn't stop the leaks... my car is sitting until I decide to drop the K or pull the engine again.

Why are you removing pan? Depending on repair needed it may be easier to remove engine.. Example- did oilpan gasket, rear main seal, and timing cover gasket for a bud. Was easier to walk around the job.

I just went through this over the winter. If you lift the engine up and remove the steering rack you can drop the pan, pull the oil pump, and then get the pan out. However it's nearly impossible to get a new gasket in there correctly doing it this way. I got mine all back together and fired it up only to discover the back of the gasket slipped inside the pan, so I had an enormous leak. I wound up pulling the engine at that point to fix it. While it was out I discovered my rear main was leaking too, so it was all good I suppose. It was actually less work to pull the motor than it was messing around with trying to do it in the car.

thats it pull it and get it done! much simpler! just seems like more work! but if you have wrestled one out before you`ll know it is more work than pulling the engine!

If you dont use a good one piece gasket doing it in the car you will almost never get it to seal and not leak!

if you deciede to fight it in the car get teh permatex one peice oil pan gasket! it has screw-in alignment dowels for the gasket and pan! itll hold it all in place while you bolt it back in!

Just the bolts messed up get new bolts and use tap-thread chaser. Poour some cheap oil in and get shavings out. Not pretty but may be quick solution.

So the bolt does in through the oil pan. So when you tap it the shavins go into the pan. So that means since they are sriped im leaking at the gasket and the bolt hole. Right?
