I am looking at Summits website and it has an option for twisted wedge heads including springs rated for .600 lift and .540 lift. In their catalog it says the difference between the 2 is that the .600 is for a hyd roller, the .540 is for a flat cam. On the website it doesnt say that one is for a specific use. Can I use the .540 lift springs with my hyd roller cam since I dont require the .600 lift?

^^^^^that is a **** poor and very inaccurate way to judge whether a spring rate is sufficient for XXX cam, I always buy matched springs to the cam I purchase and that often involves removing the springs that come on the heads from the manufactorer. Having the proper spring match to the cam requirements on the head will greatly affect longevity of the valvetrain as well as it's performance/rpm potential

Well I ordered the trickflow stage 1 cam and twickflow heads. So these springs wouldnt be matched for the cam? Would you mind pointing me in the direction of the right springs

matching springs to a cam is not the easyest task.

that is why they just go off of lift.

saying that. trickflow does design there springs around there heads/cams. So you will be fine. should you settle for being "just fine" that is up to you.

I made sure I had quality springs for my set up. but I payed my engine builder guy to select the springs when he went over the heads.

Ah gotcha. So what are the disadvantages of not matching springs perfectly? Is that when rocker arm studs break?

You also need to consider your rear gears. Gears can make or break your engine setup. I've rode in some fast cars, but my buddies 88 Vert with a stock engine with a few external upgrades and 4.11:1 gears pulls very hard and runs like stink. I was shocked when he told me he wants to change to 3.55's. He said the taller gear would take more advantage of his setup.

I don't know what gear your car has or what an 82 GT would've come with, but you might be surprised what gears would do for your car.
