for some relatively cheap engine mods I highly suggest a set of gt40 heads and a decent cam. those are the two hardest things to do with the motor in the car. you can get the heads for around 250, cam for under 150 i'd say. finish off the valvetrain with some rr's and upgraded valve springs, then measure for pushrods and get some of those, and the hard part would be done. should be simple to keep all that under 750, but there's deals out there, my buddy got gt40 heads with upgraded springs, crane rockers, pushrods, tfs stage 1 cam, and a gt40 intake for 625.
as far as rears go i'm guessing your car has the 7.5 in it, i'd take that out and throw in a 8.8 with some nice gears(3.73 if manual, 4.10 if auto).

yup pretty much what he said
i say 4.10's for any car though..... i'll never go less
and do yourself a favor, port the heads a bit, concentrate on exhaust ports.. work them good, and just smooth the intakes, the intakes don't need much. match the heads to the lower, and do a comp valve job on the heads too. all that machine work should be less than $400 and will go a long way
i would do the head porting b4 i did a cam, the stock cam is actually pretty good, but with the engine out... u might as well do the cam
trickflow makes a nice split duration cam for about $165 if you look around here it is.
