what kind of mods do you want to do?
It's not a big deal to convert SD to MAF.

1) it's an '88 and i would guess it belongs to someone by the name of
"d burtis" since the image name is called dburtis88mustang.jpg

2) nothing wrong with speed density, if it's working fine the speed density cars were faster than the newer ones all day long. i like the first 2 years of mass air though personally, the '88 cali cars and the '89 everyone else cars. my '89 was the fastest of all 5 stangs i have owned by a long shot mod for mod

3) from 1987 to 1993 changes were pretty minimal, the '87 is pretty much the '85 but fuel injected. 1986 had horrible heads, 1985 cfi cars were pure slugs, aod cars in 1985 were cfi and thats what you'd wanna stay away from. b4 1985 they were pretty slow but only compared to 87+

aside from heater switches being slightly diff shape, the headrests being smaller on the 90+ cars (but only with deluxe interior non d-lux were small on the earlier years too) the biggest diff is mass air and the switch to pony 5-stars in 1991

the rest is all minor... very subtle cam changes from year to year that don't amount to much until it all accumulated. in 1992 or whatever they re-rated the 5.0 to 205 from 225 hp. some say it's the same and just the way they measured, i don't buy it. i've been in this 5.0 game since i bought my first one brand new in 1990. not only my 5 , but 5 buddies cars has me pretty familiar. and the fastest years IMO are 1987-1990

4) back to speed density.... if or when it acts up... then change it. don't fix what isn't broken

5) thats my $.02

I have always been told the 89 was the fastest year too for some reason. Some thought it was the gas thing going on before the gulf war or whatever. On paper though they are all the same except for the re-rated thing in the 90's. I also thought that was from a smaller maf. Whether that is true or not, I have no idea. Mine had a 55mm before I took it off. It was also a re-man from the sticker on it.

Whichever one you buy, I would hope to get a 3.27 gear in the rear if possible. My 93 was quick for a mustang bone stock with that gear.
