90 GT dies at start up
Howdy
Does anyone know why a car might die at start up? I am looking for ideas. The car runs pretty decent, slightly rough idle at about 800 rpm but does not stall out, except when the engine is cold. I start it for the first time of the day, its wants to stall, I try to rev it and it bogs down and dies. This happens about 3 times and then it will be fine. I can keep it running during this start up process, but it takes a very delicate right foot, mashing the gas kills it right away. The motor is supposedly stock, according to prev. owner, but does have CAI. I just did plugs, wires, cap and rotor, which did not correct either the stalling or rough idle and the timing is at about 12. Any advice is appreciated.

Not yet, but after searching other posts about idle issues, I planned on doing that. None of the other posts seem to complain about my issues so I figured i'd ask in the meantime.
Maybe find some more things to check while I'm out there tearing apart the car.

Yeah, I figured it would be one of those etc, etc, etc.... type issues. I guess I just need to break down and get a code reader, but in the meantime I'll clean the above mentioned items and see if it helps. It is not a big problem at all, I am just trying to get it squared away before it becomes one. Thanks.

After check codes and get them cleared-fixed. Fuel pressure ok and IF it still stalls on initial start when cold the following may be the issue. Build up of deposits on intake valve can act like a sponge and suck up fuel untill saturated. Remedy is to clean deposits off valves. TSB from Ford years ago. Bubba

Nice, I'll get after it a bit tomorrow and see if I can get it figured out. Just busted the seal on the power steering pump too, so it will be a busy (hopefully not too expensive) day tomorrow. Unfortunately, not spending $ on the fun stuff. Thanks for the ideas/solutions, i really appreciate it.

Mine is doing the same thing only not all the time. I can start in the morning and drive it for a while then shut it off. Then when i go to start it again it idles at like 800 RPM or so then cuts out and revs up and cuts out and revs up and eventually dies. I have to keep starting it back up. I was thinking it might be the IAC valve as well but im not sure which one it is?? Anyone have any pics of it?
