Default 302 Engine Build - Hard to turn

I'm building up a 302, stock bottom end. I got the block and crank back from the machine shop. The crank was polished and the block was cleaned and decked, I don't think it was aligned bored since it was running when it was pulled. It was leaking a lot of coolant in the oil so we decided to reuild it. I put the bottom end together and torqued the ARP main studs to 80 ft.lbs and torqued the con rods to 25 ft.lbs. The engine is super hard to turn over. I've took it apart and retorqued it and I still have the same issue. I don't think it should be that hard to turn over, anyone have any ideas why it would be like that. Thanks

im assuming that you marked the main and rod caps and put them back in their original positions and that the replacement bearings are stock and not oversized? either one not done properly will cause fittment issues.

Remove thrust bearing cap, does it turn easy now? Read manual on how to center thrust bearing.

your problem is that you cannot use main studs unless you have the line bore checked on the mains and it is align honed with the studs and torqued down in place, I bet if you take the studs out and use the oem main cap bolts it'll resolve the issue.
