Default 5.0 complete or shortblock?

I found a 91 5.0 complete motor i can get for $600 with 91,000 miles OR a 91 short block that needs rebuilt for $250 (from the same guy). I was reading online that a stock 5.0 with afr heads and edelbrok rpm intake, demon carb, and cam, can get 400 hp at the flywheel all with the stock internals. Which way do you think would be cheaper to do this? I was thinking the complete motor, and sell the efi stuff and old heads and intake and i could make some money back off that. Or should i get the shortblock and build up? ... Its going in a 1966 Mustang which is my daily driver right now. It has a 289 in it, but i wanna build something a little faster. And i was thinking the 5.0 would be the best/cheapest way. What do you think?

Thanks all in advance
Will

you could sell them to someone you know needing them. That really won't fly on the internet. I watched a guy try to sell a set of heads for 10 bucks and no one would take them. He even asked to be low balled.

Anyways, if you want the most out of it, it would be wise to rebuild. I just spent 500 on a 99 75k 5.0 because it looked good. So it is really what you want to spend on one I guess.

That was also what i was thinking. The only thing is, i dont know what all is it in. When i bought the car about 5 months ago, i was told it was the original 289 with the original heads on it, which have been done to 190 in 160 ex, bored .30 over with fully forged internals, roller rockers and the 289 hi-po cam. Not sure about the pistons. Also it has an Edelbrock preformer 289 intake and Edel 600 carb. I was wonduring if i get a new set of heads, (looking at the AFR 165's/185;s) would i see that much hp incress? Also a Demon Road Jr. or Road Demon and Edelbrock Rpm Air-gap intake and bigger cam. What do you guys think? Could that get me in the mid 12's or so with street tires? Its going to stay my daily driver, but i wanna be able to beat those little rice burners

Let me know what you think ... Also money is tight so i dont wanna go to crazy! As cheap as possible!

Thanks Will
