Default Homemade rear main seal tool

I know people have been building 302's forever, but i didnt see anything like this up here.

I was having a helacious time getting the rear main seal to install and seal properly.
so instead of paying someone else to do it for me, or paying $100 for a tool, i went to menards and bought one item to do the same job for $2.50

it took about 5-10 minutes with a dremel to open up the size a bit (2nd picture). but it fits right over the crank, and it made things 1000000x easier.

wish i had this the first time.

it says 3 x 1-1/2 on the side, right above the bar code.
not sure if it is for electrical or plumbing, i just wandered around menards pvc section for about 2 minutes and i found it.
i measured the seal to be between 3-5/8 and 4-1/4. and this pvc piece is right at 4" OD. not sure how that makes it a 3" adapter

hrmm , interesting, I have never had a issue nor need for a tool installing a rear main ever, I lightly seat them with my hand and with a small soft mallet I have tap them in working my way around the seal in an outward tap motion.......hmmm to each his own

i tried that, i also tried using the blunt end of a 1/4" drive extension, but the seal was always cocked a bit and never really flush with the block. 2 good hits and its seated squarely in the block. MUCH MUCH EASIER than working it in.

that would be a "3 inch by 1 1/2" reducing coupling"

schedule 40 PVC, it is plumbing use, and they go by ID not OD, so thats why it's bigger

but i just use a big socket
