Aluminum Head question??
I guess its time to break down and buy new heads. Im still running stock e7 heads. I have got my mind set on afr 165's. I am also switching cams. Just wanting some input i guess. Im wanting to get down around 12.40 without the bottle and I know with heads and suspension i can get it there. I have already got the tires I bought Hoosier Quick times.

i had a buddy who ran afr 165s with the tf stage 1 cam and a cobra intake ported to the max. made around 314rwhp. sounded pretty decent too. he never took it to the track so i cant tell you how it ran

300 real hp will get you 12.40-12.50
i ran 12.50's all day long with a bone stock '89 notch and 75 shot, that was only hooking with 1.7's and trapping about 108
so yes.... hci will get it
do yourself a favor, buy used heads, and do the CORRECT port work on them.
your not after "flow" your after velocity moreover !!!
anyways, concentrate on the exhaust, and valve job, do a little smoothing in the intakes. match the heads to the intake and make sure all transitions are smooth.
your looking at about $400 for all that but will greatly increase the power you make.
make sure the cam profile is good for the heads too, dont go for huge lift, and dont screw up the combo with the wrong rockers.
check out the trickflow stage 1 cam, and consider using 1.6 rollers, you'll make good power with your setup.
dont waste money on suspension either..... make sure you go with something like hpm mega bite jr LCA's, 50/50 drag shocks. tie the subs together and you should be good. you can bag the right side and load about 8 psi in it for a big help
if money allows... do the struts too... but a 300-325 hp car doesnt really need them
thats just my opinion

I have bought two sets of heads. I bought a used set of holley systemax a few years ago that looked to be in great shape, took it to a machine shop and they said they were good to go but had two of the bolt holes for the valve covers cross threaded. Of course we didnt' discover this till we put it back together and oil was leaking out on the header which meant we got to take it all apart again and start over. After that I decided that there was a little too much going on in there to check everything with an unknown history and obviously small problems can make a big one.
I now own a set of trickflow TW that I am waiting to find as good of a deal on as I did the hads($1 to my door nib).
