Definitely advance timing. With basic bolt-ons (intake, x-pipe, ignition) you have some nice supporting mods, and can up your timing a considerable amount. I have the mods mentioned above, and on 91 Chevron Octane, i ran 21 degrees (11 advance from stock 10) and had no knock, and ran like this for 6-7 months with no issues. Even better, you can get some Higher Octane fuel, and go a degree or two further. I have a '94 GT by the way. One of my close friends has a '95 with ignition only, and is running 10% Methanol/Chevron 91 mix in the tank at 22 degrees timing, and he's dead even with me and all of my mods.

nor is the 22 degrees base plus what the ecm adds in for a total of 40+ total timing.....If the poster of such had any clue or understanding of what advancing timing does, he'd know anything past 34-38 total is just wasting fuel and has been proven time and time again on the dyno not to yield any power gains irregardless of what the ole azz-o-meter thinks

but hey some of us that have been messing with these things for awhile don't know a chevy from a ford either Mike I almost posted about the timing thing being retarded but I didn't feel like getting into a technical fight with him. I would have had to look some of it up to explain it right and didn't feel like taking the time. Good thing you chimed in! lol (speaking of total timing I need to work on curving my dizzy on the 93 since I can actually drive it.........oo wait off topic...)

if it's a stock dizzy for a 85 duraspark set up/ I know you are carbed then good luck, total advance on those things , at least on mine was well past 45* , so first you'll need to limit it if even possible then use springs to keep the weights to advance at the right curve, I just used an msd pro billet = came with all I needed to do both

Anyway back to the OP's thread...........

If I remember right it did go over the 40* mark last time I messed with it. I do have an adjustable vac canister on it but that really has nothing to do with the total timing either. If I remember right it did however come with some different springs for this exact purpose though. I just hope I didn't lose them. I did some reading on it awhile back but can't remember what I read so I will have to go back and do it again lol. The total timing isn't the biggest thing I am trying to limit but how soon it comes in. I'll do a thread on it sometime if I remember that way others know what it is and how to do it!

I have one of those adjustable canisters on my 92 also, prob is, the mech advance on them is very loose, and I mean loose, I don't even run the vaccum advance anymore, I have the base set around 16-17 and by the time full advance is in around 3000, total with just using the mech set up is 34 ish iirc, on performance applications often you want total in as soon as possible, on my 85 total is all in at 2300 anyway thread rob over
Exactly what I am aiming for
I'm done......sorry OP! I hoped you learn something there
