LX 5.0 exhaust suggestions welcome!
I have an 89 LX 5.0, and when I bought it, it came without exhaust from right behind the cats to the rear of the car. At first I liked the rumble, and now it's a tiny bit much haha! Also, I have to get my emmissions done in October, so I'll have to be purchasing exhaust before then (plus I don't want to eventually get a noise ticket for running like I am now). Obviously I'm buying a cat-back system, that comes out exactly in the stock location with the stock type tips (maybe a bit bigger obviously), and want stainless steel I suppose...My first idea was to get 'Flowmaster American Thunder', and now I'm not sure...I saw a few pics of LX's with the 'American Thunder' exhaust, and it looked [to me] like it was too close up to the rear bumper..? Any suggestions would be awesome! By the way, as this is just a project car/sunny day driver, so I'd like an aggressive/mean rumble! Thanks for you suggestions!!!

K, thanks for the suggestions. Just worried about where the tailpipes sit at the rear bumper on the American Thunder... and the Pypes was my 2nd choice but I didn't know about the fitment issue. I'll have to check out the MAC system. One other thing, will I have troubles with a cat-back system with my 275's?

the Flowmaster tailpipes clear the LX bumper just fine and you won't have any problems clearing the wider tires. I had an American Thunder system on my 93 LX and I had 275/60-15 rear tires....no issues. If you think the tips are too close to the bumper, you can lengthen the hangers....I used the LX exhaust on my 90 GT and the tailpipes clear the GT rear valence with 2 inch extensions on the rear hangers.

As far as the h pipe with or with out cats in our area as long as you have the cat in place that's all the inspection stations are concerned with. They can be gutted but just leave them there. The cats really choke exhaust flow and you can definitelytell when they used.

As far as an H pipe I would definitely get one with cats .In our area as long as you have the cats in place it will pass inspection. The cats can be gutted because they don't do the sniffer test as exhaust.Sorry for double post
