depends on your driving style and car. I will coast my car in neutral a 1/4 mile in town. With my gears, I have to hold the foot on the gas or I slow down and if I don't, I usually put my foot back on the gas just to go speed limit.

If it doesn't bother you, do it however you like.

brake pads are cheaper then a transmission....
