if you are maf then it won't be a map issue and if it were a leaky vac hose , it'd be a prob all the time, not intermitent, don't waste time going off on that tangent, it's ignition related such as a bad tfi or stator, clue is the erratic tac readings

well I messed with some grounds on my ignition box and got the tach to quit going crazy, but the car still runs really rough for a few minutes and smells really rich for away.

It did it again after not doin it for a couple weeks, got a video of it this time. Its a little shaky, but that kind of lets you know how rough it runs. It did this the whole trip a mile or so, then I shut it off and it sat for a half hour and I drove it home with no problems.

I tested the resistance in my coil today still trying to figure out what the problem is. The resistence it says it comes with is 3.1k, my tested resistance was 3.36k. Is this enough off to be causeing the problem?

make sure the ground on the coil and the green wire from the tach are both securely crimped and making connection! thats what it was recently on my brothers GT with an aftermarket tach and it done the exact same thing!

I am talkin about resistance through the coil itself, with no wires attached. I checked all the wires and grounds

Well too check the resistance from the + and - poles to the male electrode outlet should be infinate since there are no internal connection points! IF your stuck on the coil replace it and you will know for sure! If you get a resistance other than infinate when you do that it means the 2 inner coils of wire are touching and the coil is bad!

Coils work on mutual inductance and spiratic pulsing of magnetic feilds. no real electrical connection is made exept the primary coil power supply!

I know its been awhile but I am still chasing this problem, I have recently replaced the coil and the cap and rotor with no luck solving the problem. I did disconnect my msd 6al box and the problem seemed to not happen as often. It still puzzles me that I can drive the car for 100 miles straight with no problems, but just a drive around the block can trigger it. Just a recap of the problem, every so often the tach will just start bouncing all over and the car will start bucking and jerking like crazy. Sometimes flooring it will end the problem but as soon as you let off and give it light throttle it starts again. Sometimes it lasts 10 seconds, sometimes 5 minutes.

Sorry for the book, just really confused. Thanks
