Default GT40 intake

Just picked up a GT40 upper and lower intake today for 20 bucks. How difficult/easy is the install? And is there really a noticeable gain, even the slightest? Probably will not put on for a while, until I get some decent heads so I can get them both done at the same time. Does it flow basically like the cobra intake? Any info you guys could let me know on stats or experience with this intake, just let me know? Thanks.

prolly take you maybe and afternoon with a buddy? including time to plumb a few new vacc lines for the ACT? sensor and clear out/swap your injectors and fuel lines

make sure you clean the gasket surfaces well and use RTV to seal the ends of the intake.

Be prepared to snap a corner bolt off.

I have heard from a few people that the front 2, more often than not, break off. Thats really the only thing that worries me on the swap, because I dont have the tools to get them out when they do break. So I'm really contemplating just saying to heck with it and paying my mechanic to do it. It'll save me some gray hairs.

"The lower intake is just the same"

no that is 100% false

see that "BB" on the end ?

that means 2 things.... no egr (last B)
and small ports (first B)

BA and AA lowers are egr

The BA is .96"x1.65" and the AA is 1.00" x 1.80"

and for the record, i pout a real gt40 on my '90 with a ported lower... it gained possibly 5 hp.... no ET change whatsoever, but those were stock heads and no spray.

intake swap and no heads is pointless, so yeah wait for the heads too. look for a better lower and persoanlly i'd sell the whole thing for $100 and use it towards a real tubular cuz dey sexy

What upper/lower would you recommend running rather than this? Edlebrock performer, Trickflow streetheat?

I have always snapped one on an intake. The back two are bad to do it too. After a bunch of miles the water port must trickle a little and freeze the bolt in the head. Now i just use a 3/8" impact to get them out. I figure the 15 seconds I spend getting the bolts out makes up for the time of extracting a bolt if I snap one.

If you want to do yourself a favor, go buy you four studs and put them on the corners. It make the intake easier to set and there is a lesser chance of snapping a bolt off.
