Default 5.0 burning oil BAD

Hey guys
I bought a 1987 4 cly. stang with about 235K on the body and it had a 5.0 swap with who knows the milage on it it but im saying well over 100K. But after putting abour 6.000 miles i have started to notice that im adding about 2 quarts of oil every week. I drive a few hundred miles a week, nothing serious. Just curious if this is a normal thing for older 5.0's?? It doesnt seem to be losing any power but then again im not hitting redline on it since its my daily.

Thanks guys

Stupid question here, but is it leaking oil at all that you noticed? People don't really realize that their car is leaking if they have dirt driveways. Put it up on jacks and examine. If not than is it blowing smoke real bad? Have a friend follow you when you are driving the car. They will be able to tell if you are blowing oil at all. Especially two quartz a week!! Need to know a little more info on what is going on, Sounds like you may need a total rebuild on the whole long block.

well theres no oil on the ground after I park it. But I do see small puddles of oil right under the dizzy cap. I do see alota blue/white smoke when i drive it . But its mostly at low rpms, its not a constant smoking. only under acc. in lower rpms. I was thinking maybe the rings are going bad? my oil gauge never really reads low either.

thats lame

I think ill just keep driving it and adding oil till she gives out lol not sure how much it would be to rebuild it but im hearing the 5.0 motor is not expensive for getting a used one.

She made a 1100mile round trip just fine a few weeks ago just added oil every 300miles on my fill up.

PULL THE PLUGS and look for heavy carbon deposits due to oil on the electrode/ ground strap area, you may find one or more cylinders with the prob, either way blowin the blues out the pipes be da' clues to da' prob!!!

your going to waste that much money continuously putting oil into the damn thing, then just park it and give her a stock rebuild... hone the block enough to clean up the cylinder walls... car would be down 2 weeks and you'll save money and oil in the process...

no need to be stupid about it.
