Default Bought my 1st stang lasnt night. Got problems

I got an 88 5.0 auto notch last night. Love it for the price of $2500. Bought it to resell but I sorta fell in love with it on the way home lol.

Known problem when I bought it was the Oil gauge and and odometer don't work. Anyways on my way Im drove it for 45 mins or so with out stoping and when I did come to a stop and start again my speedometer is messed up. Clicks REALLY loud, the cable in some way isnt attached. The needle wants to fall but every time it make a full rotation it clicks and put it to the speed it need to be at. Faster you go faster it clicks and bobs.

So should I pull the cluster or check it at the tranny? Or is my guess about what wrong even close?

Also it has under pullys and my light are diming at stops. How do I fix this?

Also the brakes are hardly even there? He said its just the rears needing replaced. Is there a good way to change this to disk rather than buy old drums to put back on there?

Thanks

Sounds like your average fox mustang to me lol.

1. You can pull the cluster and lube the speedo cable. This may or may not help, either way it is only a temporary fix. Best thing to do would be to just replace it. For the oil gauge, try replacing the sender.

2. A 3G alternator conversion will cure the dimming problem. Even without the UD pulleys these cars dim. You should also just change your pulleys back to stock.

3. Hard to tell you exactly what the problem is without being there. You could go with a 5 lug disc conversion but that costs $$. Your best bet for now would be to change the pads and shoes, possibly the wheel cylinders if they are leaking, and see where that gets you. It'd never hurt to have a shop take a look.

Hope this helps.

Take wire off oil sending unit ground wire. Turn ignition to on, the gauge should rise, do not let gauge peg. If does this replace sending unit. Doesnot move check continuity from sending unit to cluster. Power to gauge, if ok replace gauge. Lube cable, then replace. Put on a 130 amp alternator or replace stock pulleys.

Just do the normal work on the brakes and adjust them correctly and they should work fine.

check the driven gear at the tranny... i bet it's all chewed up... 10mm socket and 5 minutes to see

i'd pull those OD's for regular pullies... it's not worth the 3 hp you might have gained

brakes ? it's a mustang... what brakes ?
