Default Building my 302

Hey guys, I want to start planning my build and I am looking for advice, or old threads of other builds to read up on. A lot of my searches go to a jeep forum, so I thought I would just be directed and ask for the info.

Thanks.

Budget is small right now, >$1000. I don't plan on building it till summer so I should have a better budget by then. At the moment I am gathering ideas and maybe parts if I can find some good deals.

I was thinking (read: everyone is telling me) to stroke it to a 347. I want to know more about what exactly I need to do to accomplish that.

Also i am between staying NA or a Turbo, will making it a 347 require me to bore the cylinders? I want to know if a turbo is a bad idea after boring.
Thin walls + too much boost = bad ending.

You will break a main cap or the valley before something with the walls of the cylinder takes effect. You will have to go.030 or. 040 over depending on your stroke to make it a 347 plan on at least 1200 for a rotating assembly n then 400+ for machine work

so $1200ish covers the rotating assembly (crank, rods, ect. I assume?)
Since the motor is gonna be out, are there any other things i should too into for the machine shop to do? Port out the exhaust passages, valves ect?

And what would be some good recommendations for upgrading the head. Anyone know a ballpark price for head studs?

NOS!!

You might want to look at some GT40 heads too if you have a very limited budget

Do you have stock heads now? If so, don't put any work into them or put them on a stroker combination.

DSS has a good special going on for cast crank kits, and CHP is offering free balancing right now on their stroker kits. Go with a cast crank/ I-beams in a stock block.

My best advice would be to research, research, and then research. Don't believe everything you hear on a message board, they are full of "answers" without facts or experience. Take your time and you will be happy with the outcome. Look into sbftech and hardcore50 for more info.

Good luck!

$1000 is not going to get you anywhere near a properly built 347. It will get you a set of gt40 heads, intake, headers, carb/MAF (if you buy these parts used), and you will have a noticable improvement over stock.

Thanks for the advice guys. If you have any other input feel free to add it.

Also, since I'm going to have the motor out, I was thinking about a camshaft, suggestions?

Also, my budget it CURRENTLY about a $1000. I plan to have increased that substantially by this summer. Somewhere in the $2000-$3000 range. But of course if I find a good deal on something I need, I'll buy it now.
