Default How to measure a crank?

When i bought something off craigslist the guy gave me a free 351w crank, he said the crank was ground down to 3.7". Where on the crank should i measure to see if it is really a 3.7" crank, because if it is i might stroke my 351w before it goes in... Any help is appreciated.

Huh? You can grind journals down for undersized bearings, .010" .020" etc but a stroker crank is a stroker crank. You can't "grind a crank down" into a stroker crank.

wrong...

you can offset grind a crank down to a smaller rod journal (within reason obviously, dont grind a 2.49" 351W down to a 2.00" 350 SBC dur...) just have to match the piston stack height with a different set of rods to make sure the deck height isnt wayyyyyy off...

old school tricks

You measure from the center of the main journal to the center of the rod journal and double it for the stroke.

What do you mean match piston stack height? I know with a 3.7" off set crank i will need 6.2 rods, is that what you mean?

just make sure you dont try to run a 6.200" rod with a stock 306 piston... you dont need like .250" positive deck lol
