Lightbulb 1995 GT Top end upgrade

Hey guys,

I'm looking at begining a top end overhaul on my car within the next three months and was looking for a few suggestions or a how-to. I initially was looking at a nitrous setup, but i'm thinking it isn't in my best interest, as I want the power there all the time. I am pretty mechanically inclined but have never done a head or cam swap before. I searched but couldn't come up with any tech articles on the subject, mainly came up with forum posts like this.

Goals: I'm looking to have a emmisions legal (unfortunately) car for weekend use. I'm shooting for about the 350 RWHP area, and not sure if this type of combo will get me there. Open to other combo suggestions. Trying not to break the bank by performing the work my self. Ultimate goal is to get a 331 with turbo, but that is at least 8-10 years out =(.

Proposed parts:

Heads - I'm pretty sold on the AFR 165's from the research I've done.
Cam - Custom? I am open to suggestions here. Must fit with the stock pistons. I definetely want to stay away from the "letter" cams...
Intake - I'm looking for something to match my current setup. I would like a good average HP/TQ across the board, not just at high RPM's. I was thinking the Edelbrock Performer or Trickflow StreetBurner or Track Heat? Again, I am open to peoples suggestions that have had experience with this type of combo.

Some questions I have with these upgrades:

1) Any additional supporting mods? My current mod list is available in my garage. (I'm thinking I might need a bigger fuel pump and possibly injectors from other forum posts i've read)
2) Will a tune be necessary? I know our computers are a bit picky....
3) Does anyone have a good "How-To" on these types of modifications? I searched Google quite a bit but can only come up with forum questions on the subject.
4) A shop I talked to about the cam said that I would need to lift the motor out of the engine bay to install the cam. Is this the case?

Thank you in advance for the replies.

that combo MIGHT get into the low 300's, not 350

a good setup would be some TF FAC heads, TFS 2 cam, and the track heat intake, 75mm TB, 1 3/4" longtubes, OR X, 3.73's, a good tune (QH will do fine), 30# injectors, and a few of the other supporting mods.

might not be 350rwhp, but should be pretty damn close...

Good to know that I can get the cam in if I remove the condenser and Rad, no problems there. The main issue is it has to remain street legal, so the O/R X and LT's are out of the picture.
