Default how much power can my bottom end take?

A few people have told me i should consider building my bottom end more, since i plan on adding a top end kit from trick flow, and a supercharger with about 7- 10lbs of boost. how much horsepower could my bottom end take before being "in danger?"

Most will say 500 HP and that seems to be the norm. But like said if the tune is off it can be less if the tune is on it could be more then there are some freaks that get away with lots more but it all comes down to for how long even with a good tune and 500 hp it is gone to be a bomb it is not if it brakes it is when will it brake.

I agree with this statement with regard to a 5.0L block.

But for a used 5.0l motor, he is asking about his stock bottom end.

I dont think after ~23 years of 'decent' driving that bottom end will be ready to handle boost and some h/c/i. The rings have probs had there day.

If your going to purchase all those goodies, your only a bottom end kit, a trusty oil pump, a few ods and ends away to protect your investment.

This may be a dumb question but what exactly is "the tune?"

DO NOT PUT A S/C ON YOUR CAR IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT A TUNE IS. You really need to start reading more on S/C cars and turbo cars if you are thinking about putting one on your car..

I have put a S/C on engines with over 100k miles before even one of my own. If it is not using oil smoking visually. it should be ok. Best way to really know would be to perform a leak down test. but not everyone has a leak-down tester. Would it be better to go through the bottom end by all means yes.
