stolen Stang recovered! after 8 1/2 years

update - I decided to cut my losses, and turned over the title to the tow yard. Even though I very polite with everyone I spoke with, one of the women on the phone volunteered that "we're not running a charity here" - thanks for that! I took a few pictures, left my old spare keys in the hatchback lock, and said good bye. If I get to my computer this week I may try to post a before (circa 1990 when I got it) and after (in the tow yard) shot. Thanks for the replies. My conclusion - getting your car stolen sucks, and I can agree that tow yard operators certainly don't operate their businesses as a public service!

answering rwh123 - I had liability insurance only when the car was stolen - so no payout. Then I spent about 3 extra hours on my taxes in the following april trying to deduct the loss - only to find out that the loss wasn't enough to be a legitimate deduction! So - when the car showed up all these years later, it really was still mine.
answering mjr46 - sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. I tried to pick the one where folks would have the best idea about possible value, and I'm an inexperienced user.

yea tow companys suck, once i had my car towed at 11 pm, went to pick it up at 10am the next day ( not even 12hrs). they charged me for 2 days of storage. saying the car was in their lot yesterday and the next day.

its a shame they wanted YOU to pay for YOUR property after it was stolen from you. who cares if the b!tch running the place "aint running a charity" its not your fault the car ended up there in the first place.
I think you got robbed twice there, cuz you know those wrecking yard clowns are either gonna A. part it out and profit off of it, B. one of them will drag it home and fix it up for themselves or C. hose it out and sell it and profit from you.
I do have to question tho, how can thieves drive around in a car for almost a decade and put that many miles on it and not have a single cop pull them over, see the tags are expired or even run the plates??
what is going on over in California?
