If you were smart, you'd go for a 94+. Since its a roller block.

Couldn't find a Ford fuel injected 302??? No offense but you obviously didn't look very hard. But to answer your question the 302 H.O. was on 87-95 Mustang GTs and all it mean was that it had a little more hp than Fords standard 302s, which at the time, and don't quote me on this, had around 190 hp instead of 225/215 the mustang H.O. motor had. The 93-95 Cobra motors had 240 bhp, and if you special ordered it from Ford the 94/95 SVO motors had 290 NA/370 FI bhp.

And you could build a 400hp 347 for the same cost as that Ford Crate engine.

because of the money you will have to spend just to get the 351w into the car. You can easily find a 302 long block in a junkyard for $300-$500. One that is already running. Your cost will be double that if you try to swap in a 351w. Not counting any rebuild parts.

In short since you have a 65 you will have to extensively mod the car to put any "modern" motor in it. Basically you'll need the motor, transmission, cooling system, wiring harness, and ecu from any modern car to make it go into yours. That doesn't include the modifications you'll have to make to the suspension and drive train to make everything just right.

Another thing to keep in mind is the newer the engine the more efficient it will be at making power and fuel economy but the harder it will be to work on. Such as 03/04 Cobra motors make 390 bhp stock but require a knowledgeable mechanic to work on, however they are extremely well tuned and are a beast to kill. 5.0s on the other hand are easy to maintain and work on with a huge parts supply, downside is they don't have all the modern electronics in them so some things require some balancing between old time mechanical know how and modern electronics. Older carburated motors require a little more skill to tinker and fine tune but are extremely easy to work with with the down side being they eat gas like crazy.
