Default My first stang and major project

I've been on this forum for a little while kind of taking in the wealth of information and checking out other people's cars and projects. So here is my contribution. Its an 88 gt with AOD, its my fist mustang (not first ford though) I just got it this past monday. I've enjoyed it so far, it honestly surprised me for being automatic and having 2.73 gears.

I actually have a few questions as well, in one picture you can see that the side skirt with the scoop is kind of warped in is there any way to straighten it out? if not thats fine I had to straighten it out today and get the moss out of the track to get the scoop back in. My other question is that rat nest of wires on the drivers side kick panel, I honestly dont think it should all be routed right there, its got half a dozen relays that im assuming is from the car alarm that was removed, there is also a push button that was part of the alarm that has to be pressed in to start the car, can I not just resplice the wires and not have to worry about the button?

The molding I removed because it was terrible, it was sagging and warped and someone used wood screws to attach it to the driver's door. I'm in the process of putting the intake manifold back on, I have someone near me selling a gt40 intake for $100 is it worth throwing on there while I have everything apart?

lol @ the star on the hatch... I know i'm not much help but.. hehe

As for that rats nest, you are going to need to go through it methodically and remove the bull****. I can see a alarm valet button there, so you definitely have some stuff there you can take out.

Just take your time, and dont cut anything until you know for sure, that it isnt stock!

along with what adder said, remove one item, and go ahead and make sure everything on the car still works, its time consuming but at least you will know whats what instead of removing everything and then not knowing why your car isnt startin

If you need parts, door pieces etc, go to 50resto.com They are great. They even had a bunch of stuff for my Cobra.

The star on the hatch.... yeah apparently back in the day dealerships thought it was a good idea to screw their dealership logos to the cars they sold instead of stickers. So yeah I had to remove that asap.

As for the valey button, I know it has to be pressed to start the car and I'm assuming (hate that word) that it was spliced into a wire that could just be reconnected. I have a chiltons book for the car but in plain and simple I can just trace the wires attached to the relays and just re-solder or splice them one at a time right?

I have both door panels but someone spray painted them black and the paint is starting to wear off is there any kind of paint that is suggested to respray interior panels? I know fusion paint is good on plastic but I dont know about vinyl. And yes I'm going to stick with the porno red and do black accents.

There is a pair of kick panels on ebay that should fit your car and there the same color. I think there about $27 counting shipping. That is if your wanting to keep the red interior. If not there are several sets of the grey.

As for interior paint I'd use SEM interior paint. I've heard good things about it, including that it is durable and doesn't leave a sticky residue. They also have paint for cloth seats.

Yeah for some strange reason the porno red works for me. I have kick panels I just wanted to get my heater core changed before I put any interior pieces back. I ended up finding the alarm under the dash but because I dont have a key fob for it and dont much care for the bs that goes with cheap aftermarket alarms I decided to pull it. I was able to figure out most of the wiring.

I have some pictures of wires that I have questions about:

Is this something that should be hooked up somewhere?

There is a brown wire on this connector that was spliced into the alarm wiring but I have no clue as to where it goes now, any clue?

Lastly this is what my egr spacer looks like now, I tried to pull it to change the gasket and it wouldnt cooperate, I ended up soaking it with pb blaster with no luck all but one stud broke and I was unable to budge it with anything so I tried to "tap" it with a hammer, finally I got frustrated and cut through the spacer into the studs about mid point on the spacer which allowed me to not so genly knock it off of there. So now I have a 65mm one on the way and will be ordering matching tb next week.

I'm in the same boat you are. I just picked up my 89 gt that had an aftermarket alarm on it that doesn't function either. If I figure out the crazy wiring I'll be sure to post and let you know...
