Automatic trans installation question

Would i just bolt the converter to the flexplate and mate them together just like as if it was a clutch and manual trans? I never put one in before.. Thanks for any help.

After you have the transmission bolted up to the engine there should be 3 or so bolts for the converter, just find the corresponding holes on the flex plate and bolt them in tight with red lock tight. Also it is a good idea to have a small coating of grease applied to the pilot hub because it moves in and out as the plate flexes.

No you can't just put it in like that! Once the tranny is under the car put one quart of fluid in your converter to keep it from dry starting. Then place the converter on the input shaft and spin it while pushing it to engage the converter input shaft splines. Should move back 2-3 times your. Converter studs will be about 1/4 in behind bellhousing face. You are now ready to bolt the tranny to the engine then put your 4 nuts on the converter studs! If you jut put it on and bolt it up you can damage your tranny pump when you start the car. Then you can pull it back out buy a pump install then try again!

maybe I'm missing something, are we talking about bolting to the flex plate or installing the converter into the transmission before bolting up the tranny? I think I may have misread the question, I was thinking he meant the converter was already set in the transmission.

But he is right, if you bolt on the converter first then try to install the tranny damage is sure to occur, it goes in one set way.

If you could clarify your question a little it would be good, I think I took it a different way than intended

Quote (as if it were a clutch and manual tranny)

I understand that, I guess I was quick to assume because when he asked about bolting to the flex plate I was thinking with transmission in place. Just didn't think it out, my bad lol
