Default just finished mustang and won't start....

Ok to forewarn everyone this is going to be a long post. I just finished installing a brand new engine and transmission in my 91 gt. I have full power to all the interior lights and fuel pump but nothing happens when I try to start it. The fuel pump and electric fan come on but its almost like the starter isn't getting juice. I double checked the connection to the starter and my main ground.

I had a friend mention that some of the older mustangs ran the ignition through the tachometer? I dont currently have a gauge cluster in my car at all right now. The previous owner had a momster tach on the dash that I removed and found out they cut the tach wire going to the gauge cluster. I have also tried jumping the connection across the terminals on the solenoid and everything shuts off (fan and lights) until I break the connection.

My car is a manual and the starter has never been used if that helps. Thanks guys

there you go, sounds like starter needs to be checked for amperage draw.

power to the starter has NOTHING to do with your instrument cluster. Pull out a wiring diagram, and figure out what you dont have connected properly

A little update on my situation. The engine turns over but still wont start. I've now changed the starter (again), the solenoid, and the ignition switch. The engine only turns if the solenoid is jumped, however the small ground wire running from the negative terminal to the fender right next to the solenoid started to smoke and melted after trying to start the car a 3rd time.

I have a pic of how the solenoid is set up now and it seems like there is a bit much running off the solenoid as far as how many wires run to it. My pics are too big to upload but I could email them. Any and all help is appreciated
