Whats the most speed for your buck?: 94 mustang gt vert
My friend just traded for a 94 gt convertable auto. its the stock 5.0 the only mod is flowmaster exhaust. It has almost 170k miles on it and its definitely slower than a stock 4.6. He doesn't want to put a lot of money into it since he is just gonna keep it for the summer. I told him to get a k&n drop in filter and 4:10 gears. what do you guys think the most band for his buck is?

why did your friend buy a car just to use for the summer? i dont even think it would be worth it to mod the car if he is just going to get rid of it... but the gears will help, wont be able to tell much diff with just a drop in filter. maybe an o/r h-pipe (that would be better than the filter, but not much).

4.10's and a 100 shot kit
that car weighs in at about 4000 lbs with no driver in it, the aode is horribly geared. if he wants to put up any respectable number at all....he's gotta go big or just dont bother. probably a 15.60-15.80 car at best in a tailwind.
nitrous and gears will get in the mid-13's

as for being slower than a 4.6 NPI...
yes, but only because its an auto vert.
my bolt on, 5.0 w/3.73's was LENGTHSSSSSSSS ahead of my buddies cammed 98 PI swap w/ 3.73's (the whole motor, not just the heads, so the compression didnt really change).
i can tell you right now, i miss my 302 cause my 96 is a friggin doggggggggggg

With 170K on the motor I wouldn't do much if anything to it. While 5.0s are fairly strong they don't live forever. Any extensive moding at this point would be a near waste especially if it's a short term solution car, and not only that it will put extra strain on the motor that will reduce it's life and may put him in a bind if he decides to sell it and something fails.
Put it this way my 95 Mustang had a hard life, especially before I got it, the old motor had 140K on it (approx) and I just pulled it out and I'm about to drop in a new motor with 87K that is over all, in much better shape. By moding my old high millage motor I essentially killed the car. In short lesson learned, not doing that again, new motor has been built and is all N/A with all Ford parts.
