HELP! car won't start after driven

I am sure there are other people that have asked, but, I am just starting a new thread. I have a 91 gt. stock other than cat back. just bought the car a couple months ago. But, the weather has gotten hotter and now, if I drive it for a while, a/c on, if I stop anywhere and try to leave, it won't start. and if it does, it coughs and sputters til it dies. won't stay running til it sets for a half hour or more. the ONLY thing that has changed other than weather, is I bypassed the smog with a short belt and have not yet removed the smog system. would this have anything to do with it? Or would it be coil, distributor, or something else I'm not thinking of? PLEASE help! thanks

the next time it "doesnt start" check for spark.

You are likely having TFI issues

i would have to agree with adder

I'll check it out. Thanks adder. I had heard of the module going out. If it is a tfi issue, can u replace the module only, or the entire distributor?

mjr46 Jun 16, 2011 08:44 AM

yes you can replace just the module

drumpro80 Jun 16, 2011 11:46 AM

Ok thanks mjr! Going to pick one up today after work. Hopefully it fixes the problem

Ok guys...I replaced the tfi module...but it just did it again. Went to get gas then wouldn't start when I went to leave. Any ideas?

maybe you'll listen to me before pissing your money into the wind

drumpro80 Jun 20, 2011 01:54 PM

Alright so it did it again, and I checked for spark and it does have spark. So, at this point, what direction should I look? Thanks guys
