OK, well since my question is similar to this, I will not start a new thread. Same question, but with an auto tranny?

Anything less then 4.10 would be a waste of your time.

I just went from a 3.08 gear to a 3.55, trust me, you feel a noticeable difference. The only thing I didn't like was that I sure seem to go through first a bit faster. I love it though, if you want faster acceleration 3.73's will work well for you, I autocross so 3.55's do perfectly fine for me.

As mentioned though, redoing a rear end is very complex, it requires lots of measuring and patience. You can only learn by doing really, but you don't want to be wrong either if this car is your only means of transportation

I wont put 4.10's with a T5, but a TKO600 is a completely different story!

haha...only cuz u said u autocross just know im not ******* u , just a comment.

im just gonna comment what i hear all the time....and u said too

"1st goes quick"

ummmmm DUH !!!!!! your whole ET is quicker lol
so OF COURSE your 1st gear is quicker...along with 2nd 3rd and 4th !!!!!!!!!!
but no one ever b!tche$ about the other 3 gears

do we forget that drag racing is ALL about leverage ?
do we forget that the launch is hardest part ?

i ran into a crackhead that told me "a body in motion stays in motion....a body at rest stays at rest"

haha oh wait.... that was newton. and i heard he was kinda smart

and hes saying it takes more force to move a resting object into motion...after that you just need to do some calculus

sorry for the rant.........i just wonder why after SOOOO many years peeps dont get it ???

do your 3.55's and 3.73's and tell me

"nuh-uh" my car is faster....sure it is......and like ive said b4 an ethiopian will eat the $h!t out of a rotten big mac, but it sure aint no filet mignon

nitrous_bob I should have said all gears, I noticed a big difference, I am using 5th gear a lot more than I use to and as said I'm running 3.55's. I'm just gonna say out of personal preference, I wouldn't like 4.10s, I could only imagine how quickly I'd go through the gears then lol but then again, I'm not making an all out drag racer.

road racers and turbo/blower cars have a place for 3.55 imo and thats it

it wont take long and you'll see this debate more than you can count. usually the argument is made with ignorant "facts"

someone tells someone asking the question, that (here are some of the common ignorant answers)
1) you need to shift into 5th in the 1/4 mile with 4.10's
2) you'll tach 3500 doing 65 with 4.10's
3) you need to start in 2nd with 4.10's

it's rediculous, i give my opinion as well, i have been driving 5.0 mustangs for 21 years now, and about the first 10 years, those cars were my DD's even through michigan winters.

and my opinion is do 4.10's or leave it stock

my reasoning is this.... you either WANT to go fast... or you do NOT want to go fast

barring the blower guys.....who gets a nitrous kit and says "nah... i think i just wanna squirt about 20 instead of 100"

thats all im saying.

FYI if you had 4.10 instead of your 3.55, you 'd tach about 500 rpm more than you do now at any given speed...thats it.

but you could also lift the tires on a bone stock 5.0 and slicks with a good launch
