SVO caliper upgrade question
 

Was digging around on doing a caliper upgrade while maintaining my 4 lug set up, and it appears SVO calipers are the way to go. I did a little searching but all I can really find is that they do bolt up, and otherwise people who don't understand fluid transfer physics. I already have the MC, so the one question I do have is will I need to use SVO brake pads OR will mustang pads work? I already have carbon metallic pads ready to go for the stang, just haven't installed yet so before I do can anyone let me know for sure? Thanks

ok well I did a little more digging to find that the calipers don't just bolt right up to an 86, so now I am considering a change to 87 brakes. My question then is are the svo calipers the only upgrading I can do as far as calipers? I've seen people do twin piston 99 calipers but I prefer to keep my car 4 lug

Yes you will need the 87+ spindles, 5.0 rotors, SVO Calipers. Try to use the ones with the steel piston. There should be a S at the end of the part number. You can get the calipers for like $30 a piece at the part store or something like that.

Yeah I've been wondering why would the spindles be different? Not sure why Ford couldn't have made them the same lol but sounds like thats what I'll do. So the only caliper upgrade is to SVO? Works for me because I'm going to run performance friction carbon metallics, may just make this a winter project and burn out the brakes that are on it. Oh and why would the metal piston be superior to the phenolic? Thanks for the info!

The steel stands up to pressures better. Its the cheapest upgrade when it comes to upgrading the brakes. The spindles are bigger to accompany bigger bearings and bigger rotors.

right I understand doing the lines, I will no doubt be doing that, I was just wondering what caliper options were available with the 87-93 set up. And what advantages do the steel caliper pistons offer?

Ever seen a brake pad that was more worn on one end than the other? That's what it prevents. It allows the caliper to brake evenly especially under high speeds.

For the fronts there aren't really any kits out there that I have seen anymore. Also The SVO MC is also recommended for the front calipers but is necessarily needed to make it work...just work better.

Your biggest improvements are going to be just upgrading the pads, the ss bushings, and brake lines for the front

Sounds good to me, I am setting up car up for autocross so I'd like to be able to go into the corners just that much harder. I am just wanting to figure out my best options before I buy parts because I try to get lifetime warranties. Thanks for the help!

For autocross you just need some good pads and properly adjusted brakes. You won't be going fast enough and braking hard enough to have issues. If you were going all out road course then it would be a little different. Good luck

this isn't really about the front swap, but rather than start a new thread I'll ask this question here. I have my front spindles thanks to tohoopty, next week I'll order my bearings, pads, rotors and calipers, and just ordered the banjo bolts and stainless brake hoses. I ordered the 87-93 front and rear hoses, but there are 2 hoses I can't seem to find and thats the ones going to the calipers on my turbo coupe rear end. Anyone happen to know where I could source these for a reasonable price? I find a couple of sources after a LOT of digging, and then the price is ridiculous because its for all 5 hoses. Other than that may have to resort to universals since I found out wilwood has those
