more TB than your heads and intake can flow. You will see little to no gains.

You should start where everyone starts...

remove air silencer (done already bc of CAI)
K&N filter (same reason as above)
bump timing between 12-14*
full exhaust
gears

If sticking with a 302 cubic inch motor do a 70mm MAF and 65mm TB...unless using huge heads, intake and cam them a 75mm-70mm setup...

You can do a GT40/ Cobra setup pretty cheap.. Just gotta know where to look and what to look for.... mid/late 90's Explorer's use GT40/GT40P heads, GT40 style intakes and a 65mm throttle body.

94/95 GT's, 3.8's, and a few other models use a 70MM maf from the factory.....

upgrade the stock fat 19lb injectors to the skinny 19lb injectors found on the explorers and 4.6 motors from many ford models... stock use 1 spray hole, others use 4 for better flow/atomization....

The stock cam is a good cam for alot of upgrades...I would get heads before a cam (obviously cost says cam first).....

3.73's are great for a car that sees the track a decent amount.....
3.55's are the best fox gear for a street/strip car......
3.27's/3.31's are a good street car gear that does alot of high speed cruising and if you worried about gas milage.....

If you was to upgrade your trans gears and get a set of 2.95(or 2.90 i dont remember which) 3.73's would be the way to go for the most part....

Since you mentioned a cam I am assuming you want a good sounding 5.0 so I would go with the exhaust first unless you got the hook up on the install with gears...

Just out of curiosity, why the block? I know about the pistons but what's wrong with an 86 block?

OP...for the question above^^....the 86 pistons are flat tops which can cause clearance issues with higher lift/longer duration cams.....The block however is a roller motor but for some reason I feel like I am forgeting something about it.... Mike can you elaborate please!
