Default New clutch won't shift

Okay so shot in the dark but here it goes. I bought a king cobra clutch for a 5.0 engine and finally get around to getting the clutch installed and finished and have been having trouble with the car shifting. When the clutch is pushed fully to the floor it will not go into gear as though the clutch isn't pushed in at all. I have a clutch adjustment on the firewall so naturally I adjusted it out further and it did not help. Here is the kicker, if I start the car in gear I can feel the car move a bit, but the clutch will not engage until the pedal is almost fully out, so I know the clutch is adjusted right (I know this is confusing and hard to explain). The clutch disk was not in backwards and neither was the throwout bearing believe me, I double checked. So my question is what do you think the problem is? Is the pressure plate bad? I am lost. Please help.

You're throwing me off with the statement "if I start the car in gear I can feel the car move a bit, but the clutch will not engage until the pedal is almost fully out, so I know the clutch is adjusted right"

Properly adjusted, it would grab near the floor, not up top. Up top is a good way to get 5k miles out of a clutch.

You're absolutely right. I had the clutch adjusted out way too far and it still would not fully disengage. Even with the clutch adjusted that far out it still would not shift as though I was trying to force it into gear without even pushing the clutch in. Its weird I know, I was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem before. My guess is the brand new pressure plate is bad. I don't know what else would cause this.

Okay so the guy I bought the clutch from said I need to get an adjustable clutch cable because there is no "air gap" in between my clutch disk and pressure plate. Thats a new one for me.

if you have a FWA you don't need an adjustable cable..
