The guys that run a 21 tooth gear, do some because the 23 tooth gear usually chews up in about 10k or less miles. But in the end, the speedometer is still wrong. Their reasons for running a specific gear outside of the parameters of correcting the speedo are irrelevant. The ONLY other case of using a different speedo gear that what is suggested on the chart, is if your tires are a different size. Thats it.

The AODE is the only trans that can truely benefit from the speed-cal. Regardless of what anyone tells you about why you should run X gear, you NEED a speed-cal to correct YOUR speedo for any gear over 3.55.

Running the wrong setup won't HELP you for any reason.
Ok cool, thanks for the info...

yeah, ford only made a 21t for the aod (purple one)
the 23t (white one) is used for aod and t5, but is actually the wrong pitch for both...since its a jeep gear.

so other than trying to keep a gear in it....and not chewing it up fast....a 21t is the way to go. and FYI, the 21t is for 3.27's, 23t would correct for 3.55's only

probably 5% error for every gearset you bump over what your corrected for
