Default Anything wrong with running 91 5.0 AOD in 'D' instead of 'OD'?

I have occassionally driven around town running errands in my 91 vert in 'D' instead of overdrive.....it keeps the rpm's a bit higher, about 1300 or so. The car just seems to run better, but maybe its just me. Nothing wrong with overdive, and I use it on the highway.....but will this harm my transmission? The car is STRONG and completely stock except for the cd player.....

Won't hurt anything really.
The AOD don't go into OD until you are going maybe 40MPH.
As long as you are under that you'll be ok.
I just don't understand why you are doing this...........

Well, yes, the car goes into 4th right after 40, OR if you let off the gas under 40 (like say, 35). Then, it will stay in 4th until you get on it. The car excellerates great, it just feels a bit more responsive if I lock out 4th when driving around town (always never going above 40). I am talking 30-40 mph city streets)....I do not want to hurt it, or destroy 3rd or anything....I plan on driving this car next summer to the mustang meet in Eureka Springs Mo, and do not want to swap out the aod before then.....

When I had a AOD, and knew I would be beating on it, I put it in drive just to be sure not to go to overdrive and hurt the bands.

while it was probably just as harmful. No its not shifting into overdrive, but the higher RPM's of both the tran's and motor will build more heat.... which AOD's are horrible at dealing with heat.

High rpm heat? I want to drive the 91 on a 5 hour highway road trip next summer. Hoping the aod can handle THAT. Probably won't abuse it on that trip, just really want to drive my convertable in the ozarks.....what about going up and down hills for an hour? Sometimes steep hills?

as long as you don't have super steep gears you will be fine.

but if you plan on keeping the transmission for a while, get a transmission cooler ASAP

you can get a trans cooler for a ford van out of the junkyard for like $20, and there bigger then most $100+ aftermarket stuff

can anyone tell me years that a cooler out of a ford van would work? And what vans?

I eventually intend to change the rearend from a 272 to a 355, so I likely would need to do this?
