Default Question on the black box that collects the gas of your gas

Hey guys,
I am not sure what the correct term is for the black box that collects the fumes of your gas on the passenger side in the engine bay, but a fellow said I can take this out. He said just cover up the pipe with a screen so it still gets air. I have not looked at it lately due to school, but do I just take the box out and leave the line, I am guessing just a rubber line, to the engine bay or do I go back further and then put some sort of filter on the end. Thanks a lot guys.

No gains in removing the charcoal canister that I can think of...

car will stink of gas, its like 2.5lb's with the line that goes to the back of the car, and it cleans up the engine bay just a bit.

thats all.

It will stink of gas even if I take it back pretty far? Yeah, that is why I want to do it, I hate it.

The charcoal canister collects fuel vapor from the fuel tank and injects it into your intake manifold. Reducing vehicle pollutants(not emissions) and increasing gas mileage(slightly). Taking it off will make the fuel odor worse. If you have fuel odor now, then it's already disconnected/not working.

the odor is just slightly anything....... to me....... but my car probably "stinks" worse then most cars.

only time it really bugs me is when im under the car working on it, the fuel vapor builds up a bit from the tank.

I removed mine purely for cosmetic reasons then turned it off using tweecer. Kept the line terminating in the inner fender behind the plastic inner fenderwell and in my closed garage I cannot smell it. If you don't have a way to change your tune then you will have to keep the solenoid hooked up, or I'm pretty sure it will give you a check engine light.
