what do you think of these upgrades??
Hi there, I am new to this forum and any help/advise will be greatly appreciated. I have an 89 mustang, stock block, stock heads, 1.7 cran cam rockers, typhoon upper and lower, CAI, 24# injectors w/matching MAF, shorty tube headers, 3.73 gears, adjustable fp, 5 speed.
I am thinking of getting some GT40 heads off of a 96-97 explorer or going with aftermarket aluminum heads. Also thinking of cams.
I am new with mustangs and wanting to find a perfect match of heads and cams to go with stock block/piston. I want to make sure there is enough clearance between the valves and pistons.
What do ya'll think?

good start. esp with bigger fuel injectors. if you want to go with heads. gt's are ok. dont get the gt40p bc you will run into header clearance with the spark plugs. unless you score them for real cheap and then just buy new headers that will clear the spark plugs.
if price is not that big of an issue i would recommend saving up and getting after market alum heads. youll get more power plus the weight savings is enough to justify the price.
also while you do the heads definitly do a cam swap. i regret not doing it.

Aluminum GT-40s would be the much better buy, but also more expensive. I'd highly reccomend getting stud bolts for those heads to as aluminum is more prone to warping due to head differences between the heads/block.
