Default transmission/gears

Got a 95 5.0 automatic with an e cam, harmonic balancer full exhuast, h pipe, and shift kit. My transmission went out and am looking at getting a 450 hp rated set up. The shop doing it does a lot of mustangs, quoted me at 3300. I think the price is decent, I would love to go to a 5 speed but that would be about twice as much. he recommended a set up that basically maintains the auto but you have to shift it manually, then hit a switch to go into overdrive. Sounds interesting, what do you guys think? would I gain anything power wise? would my shift kit work with it?

i would go 5-speed

the only AOD i would trust is lentech, and minimum stall speed of 3000

but i'd do a 5 speed swap, and you can have a crate trans + centerforce for way less than the AOD

go here...

If I got one of the transmissions how many hours would it take a decent shop to install? What other parts would they need? I'd love to go with the 5 speed but the guy I was talking to was saying it'd be in the 6,000 dollar range?

clutch kit, clutch pedals, clutch cable, t-5 trans and bellhousing with clutch fork, t-5 yoke for the tranny, however I have used the aod shaft as a whole before, t-5 crossmember , rewire nuetral saftey switch to start when clutch pedal is depressed, rewire back up light from NSS to back up switch on t-5 tranny, the biggest pain is installing the cluch pedals but it usually takes me 2 -3 hrs to do such, and removing the AOD and installing a t-5 and performing all the above 5-7 hrs, whole job can be done in a day meaning 12 hrs as a rough guide, all parts if bought new/used and or reman could run you anywhere from 1200-2000, it just depends where you source the parts. Normally if one provides all the parts I'd charge around 600-800 labor depending on any probs we run into but even if a shop charges a labor rate of 80-100 an hr and you provide the parts, I cant see that job ever being close to 6k, it should cost you no more than 2k-2.5k with the big "if" being where you get the parts from.....

thanks, I'm on deployment so I'm kinda limited trying to get parts. I don't know if the guy just doesn't want to do it or what but seems like he's trying to steer me away from 5spd. He does a lot of mustang performance work, has a couple himself, I know that doesn't mean much though... With that transmission link Nitrous Bob listed it would be about 2200 just for the trans, is there anyone that sells a complete package similar to that?

Try this AMP performance in Phoenix.AZ.
They always run ads that try to sell complete change over kits for manual trannys.
I've been to the shop and the place is real.........
