Default Z303 cam question

Hey dudes, quick question.

I've got a '98 explorer motor sittin in the garage and my buddy is hooking me up with his old z303 can for SUPER cheap. He says something about it being an RV cam and the firing order being different than your standard 302? Could this be true?

The engine has the gt40p heads and whatnot so I'm think I'll just get them ported and the intake gasket matched. New top end hardware of course. And 1.6 roller rockers I was told to use.

Anyway I've heard something about the pistons needing notched?? Is it true with this engine?

Ultimately the engine is going to power an '88 wrangler.

Thanks in advance.

z-303 is not an rv cam it is one of the letter cams from ford motorsport/racing they go , B, E, F, X and Z ..... Z is the biggest called CAMZILLA back in the day. As for PTV issues, you'll need to check for such by claying the pistons and check for vertical as well as radial ptv. No one can tell you for sure if it'll clear, you must always verify such.

Thanks brotha. I figured as such about it being an RV cam. I did some googling and couldnt fine any correlation between the RV ands the ABC cams.

So clay the pistons and measure for the rods. Will I be able to reuse the lifters you think?

Pending cubic in (302) and heads WAY CHEAP will be a flop plus a single pattern cam just isnt upto par imo!

Bigger isnt always the way to go and way cheap is well way cheap!
