Where to go with my build? **need fellow hotRodders' advice**
What's up guys? Just was thinking about the next direction to go with my car, and what a better place than tha mustang forums to get opinions! lol
Okay so basically I bought my 1990 mustang notchback about a year ago. Guy claimed it was rebuilt with ~50,000k on the rebuild (306), only mod it had was a gt40 intake. Car is VERY clean, even had a fresh professional paint job...
Anyway, I quickly bought a vortech v3 H.O. (quiet version) kit, set me back $3,000, wished I would have bought it used. Also got a high output fuel pump to go along with the inline, BBK longtubes, H-pipe, and flowmasters. The kit came with an FMU which I am using. It smells rich going up to WOT (assuming that is normal as it slowly leans out), i'm not using a wideband yet, but I check the plugs and it looks like its running slightly lean. Also have a 6-BTM which I keep at 1.25 and have base timing set at 10*. I have a boost gauge and make ~9lbs right before I shift at 5300k RPM. Runs like a beast but i'm guessing i'm making about 260-270hp, and it's just not enough for me, I want more torque, and want to make around 350. I want to keep the budget around $1500-2000, I am a college student . My ideas were, and opinions welcome here!
1. **Finish fuel/intake system && ADD BOOST && tune**
add some 42lb injectors, boost tube, smaller pulley, matching mass air, bigger TB, and a tune from my local tuning shop.
Also, could afford METH here.
Probably wouldn't be able to get heads and a cam/rocker arms for a while longer, which would drag in the cost of retuning my car later on.
2. **upgrade FMU disc, 24lb injectors, matching MAF, add boost**
add some 24lb injectors, boost tube, smaller pulley, matching mass air, bigger TB, NO tune, I would probably have enough cash to buy gt40 heads and a cam too.
Also, could afford METH here.
This is where I would like to get some opinions, I know this is the not so good way to go, but I would like to know what would happen if I went this route, right now I am happy with how my car runs with an FMU, and being it is a Daily driver and I really don't race it at all. Would like some opinions or advice from people with experience in doing this with an FMU, because i'm already aware of all the hate on FMU's.
Thanks alot guys, i'm pretty sure those two above options are my only options with a ~2k +/- budget, but any other opinions are welcome! Here are some more pics of the car.
