Question What to look for in first mustang fox body help

Okay guys/ girls I am looking into getting my first mustang I wanted to get a fox body and slowly build it up as a fun and fast car as I have a slow toyota pickup now.
There is one on my local craigslist that is for $500 its a 1982 gt manual.
Since I am new to mustangs sorta what should I check out or just things to check over when going to look at in these older stangs because I don't want to buy one of the worst years or anything like that. I am prepared to run into some things but I am very mechanically inclined.

Here is the add for the mustang
I am not afraid to get dirty I am 17 and have many years to go I have built my truck from the ground up so I know my way around a car so thats not a problem let me all know what you think thanks.

Well if you buy a car thats $500 be ready to spend some bucks!! If you buy a stang in alright conditions that runs good you will pay more than $500 but it wont or shouldnt need anything, atleast not as much as a $500 car would!

I like working on my cars though thats why I don't buy already built cars. I would hope that if the motor and trans is good i'd be happy I can work with anything else and build a new motor over winter. BUt over here just a shell of the same mustang is $800 so $500 for one with everything should be a good deal I would think

Just because they're asking $500 doesn't mean it's a pos. it could just be because it looks like ****. if it runs good and isn't rusted out $500 would be a good price. 79-84 seem to always sell cheaper as I think they're les desirable for most people; as most people seem to prefer the look of the 85-6 four eyes and 87-93 aeros.

If you really wanted to it wouldn't take more than $500 to convert it to an aero lx. Since you don't mind having a carved car I'd go check it out and if it's sound its not a bad price. only downside is its not an ho, only a 4spd I believe, and think those only had the 7.5" rear. not for sure on those last two though.

What do you think of This one in trade of a 83 toyota that would be hard to part with due to thousands of hours pf work in it but does that price seem fair for what that car is?
