Default Question about my 2.73's...

I know, I know...But what I have is a '91 LX Convertible 5.0 that I picked up for a screamin deal...I just had FlowMaster R&D department install JBA Ceramic Coated headers & FlowMaster American Legend Stainless exhaust system (for free in exchange for Dyno testing)...It really sounds & runs nice. Now I'm kind of Jones'n for a shift kit & realized I have 2.73 Traction Lock gears. I'm in no way about to upgrade gears for now...but wondering if a decent shift kit is in order / or a waste of money...Which brand/model is most desired? 85k miles

Yeah go for the shift kit, nothing wrong with that at all. I like the B&M shift kits, and go for a B&M trans oil cooler if you can find one.

Nothing wrong with 2:73's, sure its a dog off the line comparing to 3:73's however you'll have killer top end and better fuel mileage.

shift kit is a cotton pickin' waste of money without gears, it's like tryin' to float a turd upstream, save the money and put it towards gears

the thing is with as much reduced torque as they offer compared to 3.73's, you'll never see the speeds you are referring to as "killer top end" unless you have a LOT of power. Also, top end is a referral to the power at high rpm range in most cases, which still you will be lacking.

And sure, the idea is to increase fuel mileage but this goal is often missed because since you are reducing your power your engine has to strain that much more to keep up, and normally you're hitting the gas pedal more. There's a good balance of gearing to gas mileage, and 2.73's aren't it, I do know my 3.55's do well though.
