5-speed swap = more HP
Just wanted to share my joy.
Just returned from a weeks vacation in Kentucky to find our local Dyno shop was having its Dyno Days competition. Having just swapped to the 5-speed, I was curious to how much it was putting down at the wheels compared to the built AOD I pulled out. I was expecting 15, maybe 20, but was very happy with the 30 hp gain!! And +21 trq. And for those sitting on the fence about doing the swap, it feels like more. I now have 300 rwhp, well 299.6 to be a exact. Yeah it's not that much nowadays, but that's with e7s with some work done to them and a letter cam. Car weighed in at 2750, hoping for 12s next time at the track. Driver error is my biggest worry, still trying to get my shifting skills back.

Sort of splitting hairs there. Yeah, technically at the flywheel, there's no gain in engine HP, but measured at the wheels going from 269-ish to 299 is definitely a gain where it counts.

two different dyno's in two different locations, differet weather etc....... oh dyno's are cool.
I gained 15whp and 25wtrq on the same dyno, simular weather from my AOD to T5 swap. AOD was already on its death bed when it was on the dyno though.
I think the numbers where 215rwhp 255trq to 232rwhp 270trq kinda deal, somewhere around there.
HUGE gains :rolleyes

Yeah, dyno's just a tool. Won't tell you the whole truth about your car. But all pulls done on same dyno, 3 yrs apart. Forgot I added an electric fan so we can knock some off for that. 1/4 mile will tell the truth. My best time so far was a 13.5 @ 109. 60 ft was 2.25 with street tires and no spin. Car was not good out of the hole, needed more stall , cam started working at about 3200 rpm.
HACK- car is completely different now, so glad I did the swap. Can't wait to get to the track to find out, never been to the 12s.
SOLDIER - future plans? I'd love a set a decent heads and everyone rips on letter cams, but I can't complain about my #s with my setup.
Now what kind of gains could I expect from a decent cam? Heads are not in the budget now, but I could maybe sneak a cam past the wife.

IF your making 299rwhp with stock cam, ported e7 heads, automatic, and running a 13.5@109...... with a stock stall AOD
color me impressed.
89lx coupe's car made 292rwhp or something like that with trickflow heads, stock cam, through a T5.
