Well if its stock then thats about what should happen, they are called 5.slow for a reason and your car is speed density unless it has a mass air conversion your not goin to get much power but i hear 5.0s run best at 14*

I have a 94 gt with a stock 89 5.0 ho block and stock 94 upper and lower intake I run my timing at around 12 btdc 3.73 rear gears manual shift all 4 cats intact with flowmaster 40s catback and itll cut em loose goin into 2nd gear if im not carefull . Personally I dont like to buy tires so I dont like to burn em off. But it is nice to know i can lol. You need to find the sweet spot on the dizzy for your car. All the 5.0 ho moters are not created equally they all have there own sort of personality . Mine runs best at 12 btdc yours might be 11 or 13 or even 14 . Thats the fun in it all playin around with it to make it just a bit quicker .

I't's possibly something fairly simple... New rides take some time to know what's all really going on with it. I'd pull #1 plug, bring it up to TDC, & verify the timing marks are in the right location on the balancer. Once that's verified; I'd check for proper full advance as rpm increases with a timing light IMHO....
